Linux: Extract an ova file

tar -xvf filename.ova
This creates the following corrolating files:
parrot-security-4.6_virtual-disk001.mf
parrot-security-4.6_virtual-disk001.ovf
parrot-security-4.6_virtual-disk001.vmdk
